Product Information

Elliptical trainers provide an effective cardiovascular workout that combines upper and lower body flexibility and coordination into one impact-free motion. By emulating the natural motion of your foot while supporting your heel throughout the stride, elliptical trainers are much easier on your knees and joints. In addition to feeling more natural while working out, regular use on ellipticals will increase heart and lung capacity while improving your health (and burning calories at the same time).

In addition to accommodating a wide variety of users with its lengthened 18 inch/46 centimeter stride, the Schwinn 418 Elliptical Trainer also incorporates an articulating footplate, which follows the natural motion of your foot and supports your heel throughout the entire stride motion. Additional features of Schwinn's 418 Elliptical Trainer include a grip heart-rate monitoring and a high-inertia drive system using an oversized flywheel and Poly V-belt. The quiet magnetic resistance Eddy Current Brake provides a smooth ride. The more than ten workout programs include: rolling, valley, fat burn, ramp, plateau, intervals, mountain, heart rate, and manual mode. An LCD display shows time, speed, distance, revolutions per minute, resistance level, calories and calories per hour, load, and heart rate and course profile.

Almost two years later and still going strong, By a customer

I purchased a Schwinn 418 Elliptical Trainer in April of 2005 after reading about it in the January, 2005 Consumer Reports magazine. I purchased from Amazon through a third party vendor and paid significantly more than what it is selling for now. After reading the comments on here mentioning worries about quality control, I wanted to assure people that, two years later, my machine is working just as well as it did the day I installed it. I use the machine religiously for 45 minutes a day five days a week, and my wife uses it, too, though not as regularly. It is virtually silent, smooth, and dependable. The ONLY problems I have with it are two: 1) Every now and then, for no real reason, the display messes up on the machine and displays too dark of an image. I simply unplug the machine, wait about 10 seconds, and plug it back in again. Everything works fine. 2) In 23 months I've had to tighten the bolts holding the machine together probably four or five times. Every few months or so the machine gets a wobble or creaks a little or I feel a weird vibration in one of the foot pedals, but I tighten up the bolts and life is good again.

Actually, I wonder how many of the people complaining on here about a noisy machine simply need to tighten the bolts. I remember having to make adjustments the first week or so to get the machine adjusted so that it didn't wobble or creak.

So all in all, it's been a terrific machine, and I am a very satisfied customer who paid almost $1,100 with shipping for my machine. I consider $799 a bargain, and I've honestly considered purchasing a second machine just to keep around for when I wear this one out.

Exceeded my expectations, By John Summers

This product is well made, works well, is quite, and was not difficult to put together.

I have been using it for about 3-4 months now and have no complaints.

I was also concerned about how steady it would be, and while not as heavy as gym models, I have found it to be very stable. It's not really an issue.

Set up took about 2-3 hours, watched TV while putting it together. Tools needed are included. No hassle. Instructions are clear and straight forward.

A great bargin on a great piece of exercise equipment. It rolls on its front legs/bar, so it's fairly easy to move by lifting up the back.

By Sandy AvakianLove it!!!,

Great product. I'm glad I ignored the negative reviews and ordered the Schwinn 418 anyway. Every experience with purchasing a product on-line will be different and ours just so happened to be a very pleansant one. We received the 418 in less than a week and after taking inventory, to make sure all pieces were there, my husband and son had it assembled and ready to go in an hour and a half (and that's counting a potty break). We have been using the machine for couple of weeks now and are really enjoying our purchase. My husband and I are in our early 60s and we find that this is an excellent cardio workout, easy on the knees and hips too. All in all, an excellent workout!! Once again, Schwinn continues to live up to their reputation and Consumer Reports has helped us in making another favorable purchase.
